In times like this, I love my work and all the people who contribute to making our clinic and community what it is today.
This was our first year organizing this event, and it went better than we could’ve imagined. It really brought out the best in people and opened up the lines of communication when it comes to healthy hearing.
This contest was created to award a worthy member of our community a complimentary set of state-of-the-art hearing aids.
We had tons of nominees and were moved by every single one of them. Although we have only one winner, we will continue to work with all the participants to ensure everyone meets their hearing goals.
This was our first, but it won’t be our last. So, without further ado, let’s introduce you to our inaugural winner.
And Our Winner Is…
Join us in congratulating Karen Gilbert as the 2022 Hear for the Holidays contest winner!
Karen was shortlisted to our top three as soon as we met her. She works at our local hospital, which makes perfect sense, given how big her heart is. She is a pleasure to be around, and even her email signature is genuine:
“Karen Gilbert, Work hard and be kind to animals and people.”
Words to live by, as I think we can all agree. To give you a glimpse of how appreciative our winner is, here is what she had to say when she got the news:
“What an emotional experience this has been for me; I am beside myself. Robin’s kind words were so lovely, and your kind gesture warms my heart; I will never forget today❤️
Thanks for such an amazing day.”
We are thankful for you, Karen, and hope that the hearing aids help you enjoy all your favourite things in life.
It Takes a Great Nomination
There are two things needed to enter this contest.
- Know someone with a hearing loss
- Write a great nomination
Karen’s long-time friend Robin really nailed the second portion, and her kind words moved us. You can tell that this means a lot to her, and she wants to do everything she can for her friend Karen.
Here’s what Robin had to say:
“I’ve known my friend Karen for about 30 years and have always found her to be a consistent, kind and caring person. She is a soft touch for those who can’t speak for themselves – illustrated by her decades of rescue dog involvement. Karen is also very helpful to her two-legged friends and often comes to the rescue when help is needed and appreciated.
“Recently, I became aware that Karen herself appears to be in need. She has mentioned concerns about her hearing and the cost of hearing aids that are a barrier at present.
“Being the best example of a selfless, kind and caring person, I believe she is well worthy of your serious consideration for the contest services from your company.”
I swear I’m not crying, but it was hard to hold back the tears when we presented Karen with the good news. Robin is a true friend, and we should all be so lucky to have a “Robin” in our lives.
If you’d like to get a behind-the-scenes look at the exact moment we informed Karen of her victory, we have a video here.
Hear for the Holidays 2023 Edition?
With this year’s contest going so well, I’m almost certain we will do it again in December 2023. This gives you ten months to think of a loved one who may need your help. It also gives you time to start crafting a beautiful, genuine nomination message like Robin’s.
We want to thank everyone involved in the campaign this year, including all the staff who received and organized all the nominations. We want to thank everyone who was nominated and those who nominated them. It shows how much we all care about each other here in Vancouver.
We will continue to assist those who were nominated and anyone else who needs our help. That’s what we are here for and what keeps us going every day.
If you have any questions regarding anything hearing related, please call us to have a no-obligation conversation about your specific situation. We are standing by to help.
