Our Hearing Services
We believe that by visiting individuals in their own environments we are able to make an assessment of individuals and their “real life listening needs”. We then provide them with the best hearing advice that suits their lifestyle and budget. We perform a number of easy tests using state of the art equipment that show us how you hear. At the end of the hearing assessment we will explain the results and discuss options which are best for you.
If you are prone to excessive wax build-up or have had cerumen removed in the past, Hear at Home suggests that you have your ears routinely checked and cleaned. Hear at Home offers safe and effective cerumen removal services by our licensed and trained professionals.
You can prolong times between cleanings by following this method at home. However we don’t recommend skipping cleanings altogether should you be prone to excessive wax buildup.
After the hearing test, we will make recommendations on whether hearing aids are necessary or not. We will recommend hearing aids based on the audiogram results and consider lifestyle and caregiver support. We will give you as much information as possible so you can make the best decision.
The hearing aid fitting and follow-up appointments will happen in the comfort of your home. We will program your new hearing aids for your hearing loss and teach you, your family, and caregivers how to put the hearing aids in and take them out. We will show you how to care for the aids and how to clean them.
We do not rush these appointments. We want you to feel comfortable fully understanding how your new devices work and best care for them. Hearing aids are minicomputers placed in wet waxy ears, so regular cleaning is essential. A lot of clinics offer to clean the hearing aids for you. While this is an excellent service, it can also take an hour out of your day for something that only takes a few minutes.
We sell pocket talkers, assistive and phone devices, all to help you hear better. If you or we do not believe that hearing aids will be a good fit for you, we will recommend pocket talkers to minimize the impact of your hearing loss. Assistive listening phones are fantastic for people with or without hearing aids who have hearing loss. Although we do not sell all assistive listening device products, we have resources that can advise you.
Purchasing hearing aids through Hear at Home will include the initial fitting and follow-up appointments so we can verify that your new aids are helping you. If you would like to see us more often or have any problems, home visits are always available. The cost will depend on the location of the home visit. We will always give the least expensive option depending on what the reason for the home visit is.
Everyone’s hearing drops each year. Each time you have a hearing test, our system records the date, and in one year, we automatically send you a reminder to book a hearing test. We will test your hearing during this appointment, reprogram your hearing aids, and clean them and bring you any additional cleaning supplies you need.
We will offer recommendations and tips for the family and caregivers to communicate effectively with their loved one who has hearing loss and is wearing hearing aids. We are available for after-hour zoom/telephone sessions for family members unable to attend appointments but want to help and support their loved ones.
We train the families and caregivers to handle and care for the hearing aids. These demonstrations take place at the fitting and follow-up appointments. However, if you cannot attend, we can send short YouTube videos created by us to support your loved ones. Our videos range from instructions on inserting hearing aids to changing wax guards.
We offer educational sessions for care home staff on primary hearing aid care. We provide helpful knowledge to ensure that the team handles their patients/residents’ hearing aids correctly and safely. Please reach out to us if you feel this would be beneficial for your staff.
