By now, you might know that Emma and I love shopping locally and supporting the amazing local businesses in our community.
Shopping locally is essential for keeping our community thriving. We learned the importance of this during the pandemic – our local businesses stepping up and helping our community made all the difference.
The local business that we’re excited to shine the spotlight on this time is truly one of a kind and has a whole lot of interesting history – Princess and the Pea Hotel, located in Langley. We know you’ll love Princess and the Pea, too!
Princess and the Pea’s History
Princess and the Pea Hotel is in an 1870s building, which was nearly demolished before Sharon and Wally Martin decided to restore it in 1997. The building originally housed BC’s first pioneer hotel, known as the Traveller’s Hotel.
In 1874, the first pioneer family arrived in what’s now known as Murrayville and acquired land. In 1887, the Traveller’s Hotel was built by Billy Murray. The building was the first commercial structure in the new community. It’s been in use since and has always been a well-known landmark.
Of course, Princess and the Pea Hotel is inspired by the fairy tale of the same name, and six beautiful guest rooms are aptly named after your favourite fairy-tale princesses and characters. You’ll feel like you’ve stepped back in time while still enjoying modern conveniences.
Why We Love Them
We love that the Princess and the Pea’s rooms are straight out of a storybook. Each room is unique, charming, and cozy. We stayed in the Sleeping Beauty room, which is Princess and the Pea’s top-rated room. It did not disappoint! Our room was bright, spacious, and clean. We loved the open floor plan and gas fireplace. The service was incredibly personalized, and we felt right at home.
We also loved our morning breakfast. It was delivered straight to our room, and it was Instagram-pretty as well as delicious! Most dietary preferences can be accommodated with notice.
Princess and the Pea Hotel can host wedding ceremonies, and we think it would be the perfect storybook setting to celebrate your big day.
A Word to First-Time Guests
Princess and the Pea is a wonderful destination for a mother-and-daughter getaway.
We recommend making a day of shopping in Fort Langley, and maybe ordering dinner in. Enjoy your quality time together watching a movie, playing a board game, or just relaxing and chatting! There are many great local shops, restaurants, and wineries in the Langley area.
Princess and the Pea Hotel offers tours of the property by appointment, so you can stop by for a tour if you’re not ready to book a room. Be sure to call first, since tours are not always available.
