This summer has been one of the toughest for Hear at Home. After a fire next door forced us to shut our North Vancouver hearing clinic for weeks and replace all our flooring, I thought things could not get more difficult. Then, while attending a conference, I broke my right wrist, which is my dominant hand, and that affected the mobile side of our hearing services. Between keeping our clinic running, caring for our mobile hearing clients across Greater Vancouver, and building out new customized technology, we were in full survival mode.

So when the Cruise the Shore 2025 event came around, I will admit I regretted signing up. As a small local business, becoming a presenting sponsor was the most significant investment I have ever made for a single event. At the time, with everyone exhausted, I was not sure I had it in me.

But sometimes the things you least expect to lift you up end up being exactly what you need.

Sandra Lee from North Shore Crisis Services, an incredible organization we have proudly supported for the past two years, had suggested this event because she knew it would attract a community more aligned with our audience. She was right. From the moment I arrived, I felt the energy. The cars, the families, the music, it was a community celebration of all ages, and I could not help but feel recharged.

I especially want to recognize Dan, who organizes Cruise the Shore. His dedication, attention to detail, and care for the community impressed me. We even discovered that years ago I had hosted a seniors flashmob at one of his Edgemont events. He runs these gatherings with safety, inclusivity, and joy at the forefront. Honestly, he deserves a community award for the way he gives back to the North Shore.

What I thought would be a draining weekend ended up being one of the best experiences I have had in a long time. We laughed, we connected with both familiar faces and new ones, and we proudly stood alongside other businesses to support a cause that matters.

At the end of the day, sponsoring Cruise the Shore was not just about visibility for Hear at Home. It was about showing up for the North Shore community that has supported us for over sixteen years. Whether through our North Vancouver hearing clinic or our mobile hearing services, we are committed to making hearing care accessible and supportive for people where they need it most.

Here is to more community, more connection, and more moments that remind us why we do what we do. ❤️
