We are in a unique position because our professional passion brings us to many different areas of this beautiful city we call home. Despite its size, we still feel a great sense of community among the residents.
Travelling around Vancouver has shown us many great things we would not have otherwise discovered if we chose to pursue hearing care with a traditional brick-and-mortar establishment.
We strive to provide a better service and, in doing so, have found many other residents doing the same thing within their respective industries.
My daughter and I want to share our discoveries of all things local that we’ve stumbled upon during our travels. We always hope to find new and exciting businesses right in our own backyard – businesses owned and run by people just like you and me.
Supporting local businesses is much better for the environment and helps to stimulate the local economy. Who couldn’t use a few extra bucks these days?
Our selection for this edition of “Jen and Emma’s Local Favourites” is no stranger to improving our environment and economy. If you haven’t been to Krause Berry Farms, let this serve as your personal invitation.
Why We Chose Krause Berry Farms
As a family-owned and -operated business since 1974, it’s only natural that Krause Berry Farms produces wholesome and healthy berries and vegetables. Over the past few decades, they’ve expanded to over 200 acres of ethical and sustainable farming.
We’ve been there more than a few times. The first was when Emma was young, and we would pick berries when they were in season. They still offer this, and it’s a great family activity.
If you want to skip to the good stuff, visit their market for freshly made jams, pies, syrups, and more. Almost everything in there is directly produced from their farm. The items not from Krause are always from another local source nearby.
This is a big reason we chose Krause for this article: they are already supporting local businesses in the same way we hope to do.
The Wine
If you are of legal drinking age, one of the best parts about visiting the berry farm is the wine that comes with it.
Krause Farms has won many awards for its sweet and delicious wine offerings.
The vineyard is classically decorated and has a very comfortable and refined feel to it. You can choose from many of their current wines or from a rotating list. Order by the glass or bottle, or have a tasting arranged to sample many different flavours.
Our Last Visit Went Like This…
Recently, Emma and I made the trip to Krause Berry Farms on a cold and dreary day – something we are all used to around here, I’m sure. It was the last day of their seasonal pumpkin waffle, so no amount of treacherous weather was going to keep us away.
The waffle bar, in general, is a big hit for us at Krause Berry Farms. The toppings change based on the season, so you know you’re always getting the freshest ingredients.
We love the apple waffle as well. It’s served with apple syrup and your choice of whipped cream or coco whip!
In the summer, they have a Drive-In Waffle Field where you can place your order right from your car so you don’t waste a minute indoors. Enjoy the waffles tailgate style or take them to go in 100% biodegradable containers.
Insider Tip: Try to avoid weekends as it gets very busy. If you do go on a weekend, get there early to avoid long wait times.
How to Make the Most of Your Visit
The best way to enjoy this incredible space is to spend some quality time there. There is a lot to do to fill an afternoon.
The list is almost endless, between eating waffles, shopping at the market, getting some ice cream, having a glass of wine, and enjoying the peaceful ambiance.
Krause Berry Farms is open all year round as well, and the different seasons each offer a different feel and perspective. This is truly an all-natural and sustainable farm, which is a remarkable feat.
Where You Can Find Krause Berry Farms
Although the farm is located just a short drive out of town, once you get there you’ll forget all about the traffic and any other “city issues” you may be used to dealing with.
The farm is open year-round, but its hours vary. Check here to see what time works best for your schedule and get a detailed map of where it is.
We’re thrilled to have such a wonderful business and family doing so well within our community. It’s places like this that we look up to and that give us reason to pitch in a little extra around town.
If you know of any other local businesses that we should feature, please contact us. We are always open to meeting new people who love this city just as much as we do.
