If you are dealing with a poorly performing hearing aid or a broken hearing aid, you may be tempted to toss it into your junk drawer along with your other malfunctioning electronic gadgets.
Don’t do it!
Not only is abandoning your broken hearing aids a significant waste of money, but it also means that you will be missing out on the benefits they provide.
Hear at Home wants to make sure that you continue to receive all of the benefits of your hearing aids to improve your hearing as well as the protection they provide against other negative mental and physical health conditions.
Our hearing aid technicians provide clients with troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of their hearing aids. Contact us today to learn more.
The hearing aids that have come into our shop for repair typically have any one, two or all three of the following common problems:
Wax Buildup, which gets inside the casing and causes delicate electronic components to malfunction.
Excessive Moisture, which causes shorts, interruption of the electrical currents or produces corrosion inside the casing or battery compartment.
Broken Components and Loose Wires, which occur from daily wear, dropping and/or stepping on them as well as faulty components.
Daily cleaning, removing your hearing aids to shower or swim, changing wax filters according to manufacturer instructions, and performing frequent inspections to identify problems before they get worse can all prevent or lower your repair bill. Scheduled maintenance also helps extend the service life of your device and improve its performance.
If your hearing aids, or those of a loved one, stopped working, aren’t performing like they used to or have structural damage, they can be repaired.
Part of our commitment to exceptional follow-up care at Hear at Home includes diagnosing problems by using our expertise, experience and advanced equipment to clean, repair or adjust your device.
The common repairs our hearing aid technicians perform include changing tubes, wax guards, receivers, etc. We work with hearing aid models from all major hearing aid manufacturers, such as:
We know how important it is for you to have your hearing aids back quickly, so we try and resolve as many issues as we can in-clinic. However, there may be times when we cannot do that, and need to involve the manufacturer of the device.
When we’re not able to repair your hearing device in our clinic, we send them to the manufacturer for repair, using express shipping so that you can have your hearing aids back in your ears ASAP.
You shouldn’t, but we can. Just keep them clean and dry, and let us worry about troubleshooting, maintenance and repairs. Tape, glue and other home repairs might work in a pinch, but your hearing device is a finely tuned instrument that needs expert TLC for optimal performance.
We handle most repairs in-house, but if we have to send them to the manufacturer for repair or replacement of critical components, we use express shipping to ensure that they get back to you as soon as possible.
Our mobile hearing aid specialists will fix your hearing aids while you wait whenever possible, but if we send them to the manufacturer or it’s going to take a few days to get them back to you, we’ve got you covered with a loanable pair of hearing aids that will be similar.
The cost of repairs depends on whether or not your hearing aids are under warranty and the type of damage. Units under two years of age are usually covered by your warranty, but older units may not be covered unless you purchased a warranty extension.
Repairs for hearing aids that are out of warranty can run $400 or more for a broken microphone, a short or water damage, while more serious issues such as cracked casings may cost more or may not be repairable.
Depending on whether your broken hearing aid is still under warranty, the type or severity of damage and the age of your unit, replacement may be the better option. Replace rather than repair if:

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of an appointment at Hear at Home.… read more The clinic had NOT provided the hearing aids I was using — but they were not performing well. Instead of brushing me off (“you didn’t buy from us”), the staffer graciously invited me to come in so they could take a look at the aids. It turned out there was nothing more serious than an ear-wax buildup. Holy Desta did a thorough evaluation, cleaned the ear pieces, re-taught me me the basics of maintenance, and forwarded web links so I could refresh my memory. I was at the clinic about an hour — and all the staff members were pleasant, suportive, and professional. At the end of my session, they didn’t charge me a penny, and even brought me a delicious cappuccino! My conclusion: these folks operate well beyond reasonable expectations. I have zero reservations about this clinic.

Jennifer at Hear at Home was absolutely wonderful. She took the time to answer all… read more our questions and helped our skeptical dad feel completely at ease with choosing the right hearing aids. Her honesty, patience, and knowledge really stood out. She was always available when we needed her, and we never felt rushed in conversation. It genuinely felt like talking with family. We’re so thankful for her support and would recommend Hear at Home to anyone looking for reliable, compassionate care. Thanks Jennifer!
I had an excellent experience at Hear at Home MB Hearing Clinic. I live overseas… read more but was home for the holidays and Cindi was able to slot in an appointment time that worked! Holy took the appointment and thoroughly checked my ears including very detailed photos of the inside of both ears which she reviewed with me. I thought I needed wax removal before my appointment but after checking Holy said that was unnecessary but we discussed in detail the way my issue might be resolved. I was not charged for the wax removal and left the clinic with a new strategy to try. Excellent, non-rushed hearing advice!! 10 out of 10!!
I have been dealing with Jennifer and her team for approximately 4 or 5 years… read more now. We got a hearing aid for my mom. My mom has had a few issues with the unit but mostly because she’s a bit klutzy with it and manages to break things. Anyway Jennifer has managed to come up with ways to either fix it under warranty or outright replace something with a spare part they have with no charge. The last time it happened I figured we would be into buying a new unit as I believe the warranty has expired now but she was able to come up with a spare part (replaced the charger because my mom broke the connection). She did this at no cost because she happened to have a spare one in her office. This is well beyond good customer service and I would not expect any business to meet this threshold. I know her and her staff work hard at customer service and appreciate working with them. This is actually the first time I have written a review for anything but felt it was worth to show my appreciation. Especially for this last time since I was out of the country and had to email Jennifer the problem and she was able to take care of it and look after my mom and get the part replaced and didn’t charge me either for the part nor her time. Again I don’t expect any business to do that and would not expect this in the future but that’s what happened. I would fully recommend her for anyone looking for hearing aid services.
